Spiritual Gifts: How Fast Can You Run?
When I was 8 years old, I was on a little league baseball team. I was a terrible baseball player. Every time up to bat I struck out, and I was always the right fielder playing with the grass as the ball flew over my head. To motivate me, my parents offered to buy me a new bike if I hit the ball and got on base.
One day toward the end of the season, I was at bat with 1 strike against me. The second pitch was thrown, and all I remember is the sound of the crack on the bat, and I took off running. As I rounded first base I heard my team and parents shouting at me, as I rounded second base the shouting got bigger and so did my rate of speed. Finally, I rounded 3rd base and touched down on home plate as I hear then umpire yell "Foul Ball!" I then struck out once again.
I was bummed out, until I started to hear comments from my coach and team: "Wow! You're fast!" and"Now we know who our fastest runner is!" I then became the runner sub for injured players. The biggest encouragement was that I finally felt like a vital part of the team. I felt like the worst player until I learned I was the fastest runner!
1 Corinthians 12:19-22
How strange a body would be if it had only one part! Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. The eye can never say to the hand, "I don't need you" The head can't say to the feet, "I don't need you" In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary.
In the body of Christ, there is no front of the line, only a frontline. We are all holding that line together, and each of us is gifted in various areas in order to fulfill God’s call. At Harvest: Sunday Nights, we want to do our part to help you discover what it is you are best at, and help equip you to grow in it. If you are fast, we want to help you run! Sunday service is not “batter up!” It’s “suit up!”
