Matrimony (Happily Married) - Lyrics - July 17, 2009

Got a lot of requests for this. So...

MATRIMONY LYRICS:
I know your favorite color, I can name your shoe size
I'm now confortable around your father
You slept in my T-shirt last night
You whisper my name in my ear, to find if I'm awake
Could you close the window, dear, It's cold and I can't sleep that way
Oh I know it might sound strange, but this feels like heaven to me
2 hearts, rearranged- composing one harmony

Happily Married, Happily Married

I'm taking off my shoes; leaving them on the floor
I know she'll be mad at me, but that's what "I'm sorry" is for
I know it sounds cruel, I should show her more curtousey
But it's hard to keep the rules- she's soo dang cute when she's angry

Happily married, Happily Married
Not just February 14th, not only on Christmas and New Year's eve
I'll cherish and treasure all of the days inbetween...

When we've grown old and wrinkly, and I can't remember my name
After an hour of thinking, I'll still remember yours
I'll love your old age, 'cause it means I've had more time spent with you
And Know , I'm not afraid of the vows I have made
To have and to hold you, to love and adore you, till death do us part
You have my heart, for eternity...

Webcast, Free Music, and You - July 7, 2009

I've found that two things are true in a recession when it comes to music.

1. It's hard to spend the time and money to go to a live performance.

2. It's hard to spend money on CDs.

I WANT TO HELP all you music lovers! I'm making a Free EP. That's right, FREE. It's to say thank you for supporting me, and to give others a chance to hear my music. I'm not in it for money. I feel I have something to say, and that there's hope in it. You'll be able to download it, share it with friends, and post it wherever you like.

To celebrate the release, I'll be doing a free live, interactive webcast on Monday August 3rd. Instead of driving to a venue, paying for food/gas/parking, you can sit and enjoy the show at home, while interacting with us Live! It will be hosted right here. Make sure you're on the email list to get updated!

In Memory of Michael Wright - June 30, 2009

My brother Michael's birthday is today. He's in heaven. We're not able to celebrate with him because of the HIV virus. He contracted it at birth from his "biological mother." This is sadly common among many foster children. We were blessed to welcome him to our family at age 1- 1/2, and loved him (and still do) till he left us to live in heaven 6 years later.

I wrote the song "Say Goodbye" for him, and all the procceeds from that song go to help foster children just like Michael. If you want to help, just download the song from iTUNES. 99 cents will go a surprisingly long way!

SONG OF HOPE

"Reliable" live video - June 3, 2009

Wealthy - the inspiration - June 1, 2009

Wealthy
In this time of “recession,” it’s not a stretch to say that Americans are hurting financially. It’s true that money makes the world go round, and those who have a lot of it are generally considered “wealthy,” and those with a deficit of cash are generally branded “poor.” The problem with this way of thought is that there are more and more people with less and less money in this economic downturn. What do we do? Change the way we measure wealth.

When I wrote this song, all my credit cards were maxed out, the bank account was negative, and my wife and I were living off of Mac n Cheese and watching our hand-me-down (12year old) TV. I even avoided answering our home phone because I knew credit collectors were calling. The funny thing is – we were happy (stressed, but happy).

I felt like the wealthiest guy in the world because of love. Love for my wife (whom I wrote the song for an anniversary gift), and for my God. Even when your bank account is humble, you can consider yourself wealthy because you have someone you love, or who loves you….

Here are the Lyrics:

Wealthy I got a $200 dollar line of credit, and a 10-year-old car
My television has “rabbit ears” on it, but still, I feel like a star
When I’m around you, it all feels brand new

You’re the only “monetary” I need to survive
Girl you know you’re the best part of me
As long as you’re on my side – I’ll be Wealthy

All that I own I owe, to somebody better than me
I may not be a “C.E.O”, but I’m in your company

You’re the only “monetary” I need to survive
Girl you know you’re the best part of me
As long as you’re on my side – I’ll be Wealthy
Bill Gates has nothing on me…

Consider it Joy - May 22, 2009

I've noticed that sometimes I'll listen to a song, and find myself wondering what inspired the artist to write it. When I write a song, it usually is rooted in an experience or passion of mine, and there's usually a story behind it.

Throughout the next few days/weeks I'll be writing about the Inspiration/story behind some of my songs, in hope to perhaps inspire you, or maybe even create a forum for you to share your thoughts on the subject. I pray they bless you.

I'll start with the song CONSIDER IT JOY:
You may recognize that the main lyric is taken from James 1: "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." The song, though, really comes to fruition through the difficult application of this verse in my life.

When I was in high school, my family went through a season of trials. My Mother was deep within her battle with breast cancer, while my Father needed to spend the week working 4 hours away, in order to cover bills and medical expenses. I remember being on "independent studies" while I took care of my younger sister during the week. The most trying part of this season, though, comes with news that nobody wants to receive.

We had adopted a little boy named Michael at age 2. When he was about 4 or 5, we received news that he was most likely HIV positive (contracted from his biological parents). The test confirmed. Throughout the next few years he went through treatments. These treatments would eventually bankrupt my parents. As time went on, the disease grew worse and we needed to admit him to a Hospice home, in order for him to receive proper care. We would see him very often, but the hardest part was not taking him home when he cried as we left. One day, while my Dad was away working, my Mom got the call that no parent wants to get. Michael had passed away after an ongoing fight with pneumonia.

This really hit our family hard, but the thing that got me through was the hope that trials can remind us of, and brings us to. Romans 5 says "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope."
There's no greater hope than the hope we have in Jesus Christ - the hope of Heaven. Trials WILL come, and character will be produced. We live in an imperfect world, but we serve a perfect God. He will see you through. I hope this song will be a helpful reminder, that when you are faced with trials - Consider It Joy.

"Enter In" Lyrics - May 7, 2009

Hanz, Steve, Bill and I were asked to write a song to accompany Pastor Greg Laurie's message "The Holy Spirit and You." We played it Sunday, and are playing it tonight in Orange County. Here are the Lyrics:

CHORUS 1
Enter in, enter in, Holy Spirit enter in
Like a mighty rushing wind
Fill my heart with all Your power
Shine Your light , send Your peace
Come and take control of me
Holy Spirit, for I need you in this hour

VERSE 1
You have sealed us for the Day
You will guide us on the Way, enter in
You reveal The Word to us
And our need for righteousness, Enter in

VERSE 2
You’re the Spirit of the Christ
Heaven sent to dwell inside, enter in
You’re the Comforter and Friend
You’ll be with us till the end, enter in

BRIDGE
Holy Spirit, enter in (REPEAT 4X)

"Way to the Father" Lyrics - April 6, 2009

Here are the Lyrics for a new song I wrote with Bill Batstone, Hanz Ives, and Steve Wiggins... We're recording it now and playing it on Easter Sunday at Harvest.

Way to the Father
No other Way
No other Truth
No other Life apart from you

No man comes to the father
No man comes to the father
No man comes to the father
Apart from You

All who believe in You
Will dwell in Your house forever
All who receive Your truth
Are given the promise of heaven
You are the way to the Father, Only You

You are the Way
You are the Truth
You are the life. Only you

Only You have the power to save
Only You have overcome the grave
Only Your blood can wash our sins away.
There's no other way to the Father.
